Volunteer Spotlight: Anne Chatt, Front of House Volunteer

This month we shine the volunteer spotlight on Anne Chatt; Anne joined the team in 2013 in time for the reopening of the Museum following a major redevelopment.

Anne, how did you hear about the volunteer opportunities at the Castle and Museum?

I read about it in the local press.

There are so many worthwhile volunteering opportunities locally, what made you decide to give your time to the Castle and Museum?

I am interested in history and proud of fact that The Black Watch is the local Regiment.

Can you tell us about your role?

I undertake ‘Front of House’ volunteering in The Black Watch Museum Shop. This means I do everything from helping customers with their purchases to dusting shelves and cleaning jewellery. I am also the point of contact for visitors to the Museum, making them feel welcome and issuing them with admission tickets. I then refer our visitors to our volunteer greeter, who will explain the Museum layout etc. If our greeter is busy or on a break I take over the role of Museum introduction.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

I really enjoy meeting people, chatting to them and being part of The Black Watch ‘family’.

What do visitors like to buy most from The Black Watch Museum Shop?

Well, the pencils seem to be a hot favourite for grandchildren!

Do you have a favourite item in the Shop?

Think the Monday team will confirm my favourite is the small cuddly sheep. Have to hug one every time I’m in!!!

Would you recommend volunteering at the Castle and Museum to others?

Yes I would!
