The Black Watch Castle and Museum is taking part in the UK Government Great British Summer Savings scheme which runs from 25 June to 1 September 2026.
The scheme introduces a temporary reduction in VAT from 20 percent to 5 percent on eligible admissions and children’s meals during the summer holiday period. We are passing this reduction directly to visitors through reduced prices.
The aim of the scheme is to encourage visits to cultural attractions, museums and visitor destinations during the school holidays by reducing the cost of admission and key visitor services.
For more information on the national scheme visit the UK Government website.
Reduced Admission Prices
Visitors will receive a 12.5% reduction on all standard admission tickets purchased throughout the Great British Summer Savings period.
Reduced admission includes full access to The Black Watch Museum, located within Balhousie Castle in the centre of Perth. The Museum showcases around 300 years of Scotland oldest highland regiment, The Black Watch, through objects, archives and personal accounts.
The Black Watch Castle and Museum is managed by The Black Watch Regimental Trust, a registered Scottish charity. Income generated through admissions, retail, catering, donations and memberships directly supports the Trust’s mission to care for the Museum, preserve its collections and support Black Watch veterans and their families through welfare and comradeship.
A visit contributes directly to this charitable work and helps ensure the history of The Black Watch is preserved for future generations.
Your Ticket And Annual Pass
Our standard admission tickets will continue to be upgraded to a 12 month annual pass at no additional cost.
This means visitors purchasing a reduced admission ticket during the Great British Summer Savings period will still benefit from unlimited return visits for a full year from the date of their first visit, making this an ideal time to visit.
Whether returning to explore the galleries in greater detail, bringing family and friends back to discover the Museum or visiting again throughout the seasons, the annual pass allows visitors to enjoy The Black Watch Castle and Museum long after their initial visit.
Family Activities Programme
From the regiment’s Highland origins through to the First and Second World Wars each week offers families the chance to discover new stories, handle objects connected to the Museum collection and take part in themed crafts inspired by The Black Watch history.
Drop in craft sessions and object handling activities run every Tuesday from 10am to 2pm throughout the summer holidays.
As every Museum admission ticket is automatically upgraded to an Annual Pass at no additional cost, families can return throughout the summer holidays and enjoy every themed activity day after their first visit without paying for admission again.
Reduced Kids Menu in the Bistro @ The Castle
Families looking to extend their visit can also enjoy reduced pricing on children’s meals in the Bistro @ the Castle.
Located at the heart of The Black Watch Castle and Museum, the Bistro provides a warm and welcoming space to relax before or after exploring the galleries. Whether you are stopping for lunch, light refreshments or a sweet treat, the Bistro offers a menu celebrating seasonal Scottish produce and local suppliers, with options suitable for a range of tastes and dietary requirements.
With daily service and friendly staff, the Bistro is a popular choice for visitors and local residents alike, making it the perfect place to complete your visit while taking advantage of children’s menu savings throughout the scheme.
