I am try to trace the record of my grandfather, Francis Allan, born 28 December 1873 at 18 North William Street, Perth. I understood from my mother that he served with the Black Watch in South Africa between 1899 and 1902. He may have been a piper (he certainly played them) or an infantryman. After returning home to Scotland in the early 1900s he moved to South Africa and served as a banker (manager and inspector). Are you able to give me any information of his service in the Black Watch?
