THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT
Twenty years ago to the day, the 1st Battalion The Black Watch led the advance into Basrah as part of the British invasion of Iraq. Major General Mike Riddell-Webster, who was the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, will tell the story of the events leading up to that day, the 6th April 2003, and the immediate aftermath of the occupation of the city; events that would lead to the award of the last Battle Honour the Regiment was to earn before the formation of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Mike Riddell-Webster joined The Black Watch in Northern Ireland in 1983. He was a Platoon Commander, Company Second in Command, Regimental Signals Officer, Adjutant, Company Commander, and Second in Command before assuming command of the Battalion in 2000. Whilst in command, the Battalion deployed on operations in Kosovo and Iraq.
