Event Details

More than 250 years ago, in 1756, the major powers of Europe became entangled in a conflict now known as the Seven Years War that was to last until 1763. It involved all the major powers of Europe, and spanned the world, described by Churchill as the first world war. In Europe, Britain, Hanover, Prussia, and later Portugal fought against Austria, France, Russia, Saxony, Sweden, and later Spain.

As ever in times of war, Britain needed to raise new regiments to expand her army. Scotland provided a ready source of recruits, and a number of short-lived Highland regiments were raised. While some saw service in America, two were raised to join the British contingent in Europe. These were the 87th Keith’s Highlanders and 88th Campbell’s Highlanders.

Brigadier (Retd) Charles Grant will talk about the origins of these two regiments, their remarkable service and battles in Germany, and their uniforms.
