Drop-Off Workshops – Summer at The Castle

Date: Wednesdays: 16th, 23rd, and 30th July
Time: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Price: £17.50 per child (includes a drink and snack)
For children aged 8–12 years

Parents can leave their children in the care of our friendly team for them to enjoy hands-on crafts and activities, explore the history of The Black Watch and spend time playing in the Castle grounds (weather permitting). Kids can enjoy workshops on Monty’s Moonlight, exploring the clever use of light and camouflage during WWII night missions; Pipes & Drums, where they’ll discover the sounds, and traditions of regimental music; and Signals & Codes, diving into the fascinating world of wartime communication, secret codes, and message decoding.

Looking for a fun, creative, and educational way to keep your child engaged this summer? Our Drop Off Workshops – Summer at The Castle offer the perfect solution! Parents can confidently leave their children in the care of our experienced and friendly team for a full morning of hands-on learning and play—all set within the inspiring surroundings of The Black Watch Castle and Museum.

Each three-hour session is packed with exciting activities that combine creativity, history, and outdoor fun. Children will take part in engaging craft projects inspired by real stories from The Black Watch’s past, explore fascinating aspects of military history, and enjoy time to play in our Castle grounds (weather permitting). All sessions include a drink and a snack.

Workshop Dates and Themes:
16th July – Monty’s Moonlight
Conduct a fun experiment with light to discover how Monty’s Moonlight helped troops during wartime, then build your own searchlight to take home.

23rd July – Pipes and Drums
Learn about the history of pipes and drums in The Black Watch, then have a go at putting together your own mini pipe and drum band through creative crafts.

30th July – Signals and Codes
Dive into the fascinating world of military codes and signals. Practice sending your own coded messages and construct a telegraph model to take home.
