Evening Visits
Explore the Museum After Hours with Exclusive Access
We know that not every group can visit during school hours, which is why we offer Evening Visits tailored to youth groups, clubs and schools looking for a unique after-hours experience at The Black Watch Castle and Museum.
These sessions take place outside of our usual opening hours and are led by a member of our Learning Team. You’ll have exclusive use of our galleries and education space, giving your group a chance to explore history in a quieter, more personalised setting.
Whether you’re planning a seasonal visit, working towards a badge, or simply looking to bring learning to life, we can build a session that suits your group.
Planning Your Visit
Evening visits must be booked at least two weeks in advance to ensure staff availability and to help us plan a session that fits your group’s needs.
We currently offer evening sessions on weekday evenings only, usually between 5pm and 8pm, depending on availability. Sessions last up to 2 hours and include time for activities, feedback, and questions.
To book your visit, complete our Evening Visit Booking Request Form or email learning@theblackwatch.co.uk.
Cost and Group Size
The cost of an evening visit is £5 per pupil and there is a minimum group size of 5 and a maximum of 15- 20. If your group is smaller or larger than this, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss what’s possible.
All materials and resources are included in the cost, and adult leaders or supervisors attend free of charge.
What's Included
Evening sessions can include one or two workshops or activities from our regular school programme (See Workshop page).
You’re welcome to choose a theme or topic that suits your group. Our team will work with you in advance to build a session that is age-appropriate, engaging and tied into your learning goals or interests.
Sample Evening Visit Structure
Here’s a typical structure for a 2-hour evening visit:
- Arrival and welcome (10 to 15 minutes)
- Activity 1 (30 to 45 minutes)
- Break or short transition
- Activity 2 (30 to 45 minutes)
- Feedback and close (10 minutes)
We can adapt the structure to suit your group’s needs and can include breaks for snacks or drinks if arranged in advance.
