Group Captain Rory McLaren will give a lecture on the Evolution of Air and Space Power from 1925 to 2025, majoring on the strategic bombing campaigns of the Second World War. The talk will briefly explore the early development of air warfare leading on to the Second World War air campaign and then the lessons of those bombing campaigns that have helped to map the current doctrine of the RAF. Dr David Jordan, of Kings College London, has kindly provided some unique material for the Group Captain to deliver.
Group Captain Rory McLaren joined the RAF in 1999. He trained as a fast jet pilot and did operational tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His more recent employments have been in Typhoon Exports and 11 Group Operations and Planning. For the last year he has worked in the Ministry of Defence in Strategic Programmes – Complex Weapons, supporting the Joint weapons portfolio and future weapons development.
