Hands-On History

Date: 15th November
Time: 11am -12pm and 2pm – 3pm
Price: £5 per child with one accompanying adult (*museum entry is not included)

Step into the past and explore the remarkable stories of Black Watch Prisoners of War with our special “Hands-On History” crafting session! This unique experience invites children to delve into a written account of Colour Sergeant Mackenzie, who was captured during the Battle of St Valery in June 1940. We’ll read his compelling story of survival as a prisoner of war, then invite participants to illustrate and create their own storybook using paper, drawing tools, and yarn.

You will also get to visit the Captive Voices exhibit, where you’ll discover more about the experiences of Black Watch soldiers held captive during the Second World War. This hands-on event not only fosters creativity but also offers a meaningful way to engage with history.
