The Crescent was an area in central Dundee that was home to hundreds of families dependant on the jute industry for their income. The book centres on the people who lived there and the poverty that drove the men to the Black Watch and the Boer war, then the first world war. Through the decades it follows the life of a family affected by wars, depression and drink in the city and by default the movement to South Africa and Australia as was common in the UK.
This is the story of the Author’s own family and in the main, is a true account that has been compiled by verifiable research of the archives. The family named in the book are factual and the events detailed are based on verifiable research. The gripping tale that twists and turns throughout the book is proof that the truth is stranger than fiction.
