Kilt

What do tourists think of when they imagine Scotland? Bagpipes, thistles and heather probably pop into your mind but the tartan kilt is almost certainly one of them. The kilt is definitely a big part of the identity of the Black Watch soldier and as you go through the Museum you will see many kilts on display, as well as in lots of the paintings and pictures. Keep an eye out as you go around.

There are many different tartan patterns but here you will see two types. One is the famous dark Black Watch tartan worn for centuries by the soldiers as they went into battle. The other is a red tartan called Royal Stewart and this is the tartan worn by the iconic Pipes and Drums.
