Lecture | British Military Medals
Thu, May. 2, 2019 1:30pm — 2:30pm
Many military medals have a personal and emotional significance to the people they were awarded to and to their families. Using and handling medals from the Museum collection, Fiona Connah will give a brief introduction to British Military medals, particularly those awarded to Black Watch soldiers. Beginning at the turn of the 18th century, the talk will focus on both service medals and decorations. This talk will consider the design and symbolism of medals, as well as their context and background.
Fiona Connah is the Museum Assistant at The Black Watch Castle and Museum. Having worked as a volunteer collections assistant for the museum since the redevelopment in 2013, Fiona became a member of staff in 2017. She has also worked at Perth Museum as part of the current collections’ review team. Fiona has a degree in Medieval History from the University of Glasgow and has recently returned there to study for an MSC in Museum Studies.
