The Blackwatch - Royal Highland Regiment
research enquiry

The Black Watch Museum Object of the Month

"In a Highland Regiment every individual feels that his conduct is the subject of observation and that, independently of his duty, as one member of a systematic whole he has a separate and individual reputation to sustain, which will be reflected on his family and district or glen."

Historical Articles

Saluting the men of the past

It is our intention to publish historical articles that have appeared in the Regimental Journal, The Red Hackle. Many have been researched and written by men who have served in the Regiment. By doing so, we hope to describe the spirit and corporate life of this old and illustrious Regiment in both peace and war. The principal character, whose life and spirit animates the whole story is that of the soldier, the "Jock".The Red Hackle Publication

The Red Hackle Magazine was first published in April 1921 and with the exception of the war years, 1939 - 45, it has recorded the life of the Regiment since then. Over the years it has developed and evolved and readers may order copies by e mailing or phoning Home Headquarters at Balhousie Castle in Perth.
